Dear Third Grade Parents

Homework has finally begun!  Each week your child will receive homework in Spelling, Reading and Math.  He/she will have homework every single day, so if they ever say they do not have homework, it's not true!  On Mondays, we will send home a calendar that tells you what the homework will be for the week and we will also put that calendar up on the EECS website. 

Spelling

Spelling homework will be very routine.  On Mondays, your child will have a worksheet that goes with our spelling program Guided Spelling to practice their words for the week.  On Tuesdays, he/she will have word shapes or a puzzle.  On Wednesdays, he/she will have to write spelling sentences for each of the spelling words for the week.  On Thursdays, he/she will do a practice test and will need a parent or brother/sister to give it to them.  Every Friday we will have a spelling test.

Reading

Every day your child needs to read for 20-30 minutes.   You have all received and hopefully signed a copy of our library contract if you want to borrow books from our classroom libraries.  He/she will also need to write in their reading log every day, which will be a journal that they bring home each night and it will be checked each day at school.  Attached is the list of possible things that he/she can write about.  2 days a week he/she will also receive a reading comprehension exercise to help prepare for the ISAT.

Math

Your child will receive 2 different types of math homework.  Mondays and Wednesdays will be skills practice homework and Tuesdays and Thursdays will be word problems and extended response, which is also good preparation for the ISAT.

Homework needs to be completed and brought to school every single day.  There will be no homework over the weekend.  However, at the end of each week, if there is classwork that has not been completed, we will send it home to be completed over the weekend.

Estimados padres de tercer grado,

 Ya empezamos con tarea!  Cada semana su hijo/a recibirá tareas de deletreo, lectura y matemáticas.  Él/ella tendrá tareas todos los días, entonces si dice que no tiene tarea, no es verdad!  Los lunes, enviaremos para su casa el calendario con todas las tareas para la semana, también  encontraran el calendario en la pagina web de EECS.

Deletreo

Tareas de deletreo serán rutina.  Los lunes, su hijo/a tendrá una hoja que es parte del programa de deletreo "Deletreo Guiado" que usaremos para practicar sus palabras de la semana.  Los martes, el/ella tendrá formas de palabras o un puzzle.  Los miércoles, el/ella escribirá oraciones completas usando las palabras de deletreo.  Los jueves, el/ella tendrá una práctica de examen de deletreo.  Todos los viernes tendremos un examen de deletreo.

Lectura

Todos los días su hijo/a necesita leer por lo menos 20 a 30 minutos.  Todos han recibido y espero hayan firmado una copia del contrato de la biblioteca si quieren tomar prestados libros de la biblioteca en el salón.  El/ella también necesita completar el registro diario de lectura, que es un cuaderno que llevan a casa cada noche que sera revisado en la escuela cada día.  Adjunto es la lista de temas posibles que el/ella puede escribir.  2 días en la semana, también recibirá una hoja de comprensión de ayuda para prepararlos para el ISAT.

Matemáticas

Su hijo/a recibirá 2 tipos de tareas en matemáticas.  Los lunes y los miércoles, tiene práctica de habilidades matemáticas; y los martes y los jueves tiene problemas en cuentos y respuestas extendidas, que también es buena preparación para el ISAT.

Es necesario completar y devolver las tareas todos los días.  No habrá tareas los fines de semanas.  Sin embargo, al final de cada semana, si hay trabajo en clases que no ha sido completado, lo enviaremos a casa para que sea completado durante el fin de semana.
