Mission Statement

At the elementary level, it is critical to develop learners who explore, inquire and are able to work collaboratively to construct knowledge and develop skills. At EECS it is not enough to learn concepts from books and memorize facts. It is necessary to approach all content areas from both a foundation of discipline-specific knowledge and an inquiry-based, hands-on approach.

Innovative Curriculum
EECS nurtures bi-literate and bi-cultural confident students through the Native Language and Heritage Program focused on family, community, history and cultural identity.

Personalization
EECS knows and cares for students on a personal basis and maintains Individualized Learning Plans for each student.

Outstanding Teachers
EECS hires experienced, bilingual teachers with early childhood development training and demonstrated success in working with children of diverse cultures and learning abilities.

Governance
EECS establishes a governing board of Erie Neighborhood House board members, the EECS principal, community and civic leaders, teachers and parents as well as a representativ from the EECS Parent Leadership Council.

Partnerships
EECS has formed strong partnerships with universities, museums, businesses and other community organizations.
These include but are not limited to: founding organization, Erie Neighborhood House, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Erikson Institute, Illinois Network of Charter Schools, Chicago Teacher's Center, Casa de Providencia, The Chicago Children's Museum, Suzuki-Orff School of Music, Tohkon Judo Academy, DePaul University among others.
