Mission Statement

At the elementary level, it is critical to develop learners who explore, inquire and are able to work collaboratively to construct knowledge and develop skills. At EECS it is not enough to learn concepts from books and memorize facts. It is necessary to approach all content areas from both a foundation of discipline-specific knowledge and an inquiry-based, hands-on approach.

Dear LIU families and friends,

Welcome to our website! We will be posting what’s happening in our classroom community every month. We will be also be adding other features. Come back soon!

March at LIU

Reading

March is nonfiction month. We are learning about the different parts (table of context, index) and uses of nonfiction books. We are reading nonfiction books for all kinds of purposes: getting information, using pictures as reference, learning how to do something.

Writing

After finishing two All About Books on topics we are experts on, LIU is finishing their third All About book on animals. Please come and see our outside bulletin board!

Social Studies

We continue to learn about the continents. We are learning about Antarctica. This week we made penguins!

Math

March is money month! We are learning about the characteristics and value of different coins: quarter, dime, nickel, penny.

We are also reviewing making and reading graphs.

Gym

LIU’s favorite activity at the moment is the obstacle race!

Spanish

We are learning all about animals in Spanish. We are also learning words with the letters Pp.
