What's happening in Northwestern 2nd grade?

The Wildcats are going to be very busy during our first month of 2nd grade. Below are the main topics, skills and learning objectives we will be striving towards as we get to know one another, establish routines and expectations.

Reading: Students will learn how to choose a "good fit"
book. They will learn how to select a book that is on their level, providing a balance of challenge and interest.  Students will practice the procedures for guided reading groups and literacy centers.

Writing: Students will brainstorm ideas and generate
lists of potential writing topics. Students will begin   
to engage in free writing opportunities utilizing their
personal writing journals.

Math: Students will explore a variety of strategies to aid
in solving addition and subtraction problems.  Students will practice telling time to the nearest half and quarter hours. Students will practice the procedures for math centers and guided math groups.

Science: Students will practice safety procedures when
conducting science experiments. Students will practice making accurate observations and recording such in their science journals.

Social Studies: Students will learn about immigration and
how it changed America. Students will discuss family and what it means to be part of a family. Students will conduct their own ancestry report, which will be shared with the class.

Spanish: Students will learn when to use informal vs.
formal greetings in Spanish. They will learn how we ask someone what their name is. How do we say goodbye, see you tomorrow, or see you later? Also how do we say please and thank you and how do we express the month of the year in Spanish. They will practice their writing in Spanish in their personal journals.

 

¿Qué está pasando en 2nd grado en el salón de Northwestern?

Los Wildcats van a estar muy ocupados durante nuestro primer mes de segundo grado. Abajo están los temas  principales, destrezas y objetivos de aprendizaje en los que vamos a esforzarnos y en dirección a establecer las expectativas y las rutinas a medida que nos vayamos  conociendo unos a otros.
 
Lectura: Los estudiantes van a aprender a escoger un buen libro adecuado a su nivel. Ellos van a aprender a seleccionar un libro que este en su propio nivel, proveyendo un desafío e interés balaceado. Los estudiantes van a practicar los procedimientos de la lectura guiada en grupos y los centros de literatura.
 
Escritura: Los estudiantes van a dar ideas y generar una lista de tópicos de escritura. Los estudiantes van a empezar a emplear oportunidades libres de escritura utilizando sus diarios personales de escritura.
 
Math: Los estudiantes van a explorar una variedad de estrategias para ayudar a solucionar problemas de sumas y restas. Los estudiantes practicaran los procedimientos en los centros de matemática y los grupos de matemática guiada.
 
Ciencias: Los estudiantes van a practicar procedimientos de seguridad cuando conduzcan los experimentos de ciencias. Los estudiantes van a practicar haciendo observaciones exactas escribiéndolas en sus propios diarios de ciencias.
 
Estudios Sociales: Los estudiantes van a aprender sobre inmigración y como ha cambiado a América. Los estudiantes van a hablar sobre la familia y que significa ser parte de una familia. Los estudiantes van a conducir su propio reporte de sus ancestros, el cual van a compartir con la clase.
 
Español: Los estudiantes van a aprender los saludos formales e informales. Ellos van a aprender a como    preguntar a alguien el nombre, decir adiós, te veo mañana, te veo más tarde. También como decimos por favor y gracias, y como decimos los meses del año en español. Los estudiantes van a practicar la escritura de español en sus  diarios personales.
