Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  My name is Maraliz Salgado and I have been a proud E.E.C.S. parent since its founding year, but this year my involvement with the school has grown to joining the teaching staff. I am now serving as the 7th grade Humanities (Reading, Writing, and Social Studies) in the newly instituted Morehouse College room (Room 303).  My journey in teaching (mostly in the upper grades) has returned me to my beloved Humboldt Park, in the building where I first began 14 years ago! It is an honor and a blessing to be back here and to be a part of your child's formative years.

As dedicated professionals, the middle school team is committed to offering your child knowledge and discipline, nurturing and guidance in order to better prepare them for the challenges of both formal and real-world education.  However, it will take collaboration among us all (parents, students, school staff, & community) as partners in education to make this happen! With that in place, we can expect an exciting year full of opportunities and achievements for our students at Erie Elementary Charter School and beyond.  Let's communicate regularly, so that we can establish a positive relationship and get your child's seventh grade year off to a fantastic start!   • One red (or other color) ink pen for editing/una pluma roja (o de otro color, para redaccion)
  • Flash drive/disk electronico compacto para archivar informacion en la computadora
  • one 3-subject notebook/una libreta espiral con tres divisiones
  • 2 marble composition notebooks/dos libretas de composicion (blanca y negra)

Queridos Padres,

Bienvenidos al ano escolar 2011-2012.  Mi nombre es Maraliz Salgado, y he sido una madre orgullosa de estudiantes de la escuela elemental Erie desde sus principios, pero este ano mi asociacion con la escuela ha crecido. Ser la maestra de Humanidades (Lectura, Escritura y Estudios Sociales) del septimo grado (aula Morehouse College, Salon 303) y poder ser parte de el desarrollo academico y personal de su hijo/hija es un honor muy grande para mi. Durante mi carrera de maestra de catorce anos, he regresado a la primera escuela donde empece a ensenar en mi querido Humboldt Park.

Como educadores profesionales, nuestro papel es guiar a nuestros estudiantes por rumbos positivos a la educacion universitaria, al servicio al publico, y al crecimiento personal; obviamente, es una labor importantisimo y dificilisimo y necesitamos ayudarnos y apoyarnos como familia escolar. El esfuerzo debe ser uno colectivo entre el estudiante, los padres, los maestros y la comunidad. Si logramos este enlace, podemos esperar grandes exitos y oportunidades para nuestros ninos.
