Dear Parents and Students,
Hello! My name is Kim Kays and this is my first year at Erie Elementary School. I’ll be teaching music, directing the choir, and working with the middle school students in advisory. It is my goal to show Erie students that there is a beautiful, exciting, fascinating, and musical world out there for them to discover. I’m excited to be a part of the Erie family!
I was always involved in music in school. Because of this I was inspired to become a music teacher and provide my students the same opportunities. I play the piano, saxophone, sing, and dance and have been teaching music for six years. I’ve also traveled the world and have been to 30 countries! I hope to bring these rich experiences into my classroom.
I will give my best to my students every day and expect the same from them. I expect my students to be ready and be respectful. What does this look like in music class? I expect them to come prepared with supplies and be ready to be active. Music is a hands-on class, so participation is a must! Students are expected to treat others with respect and kindness. I want my students to feel comfortable singing, dancing, playing, and experimenting.
Students will be playing both rhythm and melody instruments, singing, and dancing in class every week. The third, fourth, and fifth graders will be learning the recorder. Middle School students will take a deeper look into more contemporary music and it’s place in society. The Erie Eagle Choir will be open to all Fourth-Seventh graders who love to sing. We will also be doing a spring musical. There are lots of ways for you student to get involved and perform!
I’m very excited about the upcoming year at Erie. If anyone in your family plays an instrument or sings, please let me know. I’d love to get families involved in our music curriculum. If you have any questions, ideas, or concerns feel please contact me!
