Arts in Education Programs

At EECS, it is not enough to learn skills and memorize facts. At the elementary level, we believe it is critical to develop learners who explore, inquire and are able to work collaboratively to construct knowledge and develop skills. Our Arts in Education programming is an essential component of this model. We have incorporated a series of programs into daily classroom activities to reinforce traditional education, while sparking our students’ zest for learning.

Visual Arts

EECS offers a visual arts program, made possible by another year of funding from the Springboard Foundation. The program takes place after school and is taught by a visiting professional artist. Students get an opportunity to be creative and express themselves, while learning about their culture and heritage.

Choir

The Mission of the Erie Elementary Charter School Choir is that every student will work together as a team to create an ensemble they can take pride in.  Students will cultivate their talents and use them to better their community. Each choir member will develop proper vocal technique and be given a well-rounded music fundamentals background that will instill the performance skills needed to be an independent singer.  This training will not only educate the students at a high level of musicianship, but also develop confidence within the students.

The 2011-2012 EECS Choir is open to all 4th-7th grade students who love to sing! The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Kim Kays and practices on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:15. The choir performs at school and family events and will also be traveling around the city to perform at various events.
